Guitar Tuition

I have been a fulltime working musician/guitar player since 1975 and an active teacher since the the mid 80's, something of a lifetimes dedication. In that time I have spent countless hours studying the instrument, musical realationship's, playing and teaching hundreds of others how to play a wide and diverse range of Rock, Blues and Jazz.

I have also worked hard over the years on the craft of song writing, something that continues to this day with the release of Voodoo Town and the planned recording and release of a second CD this year

Along the way It has become something of a mission to help other people achieve their own musical goals. We live in an age where we are inundated by the inaccuracies of internet tabs, guitar hero, YouTube and the complete comercialisation/devaluation of popular music [reduced to a ring tone/sample].

It's important to return to the real deal, no virtual reality here, just a thorough understanding of fundamentals and the development of good musicianship. Guitar is a truly remarkable and multi faceted instrument and today, more than ever we have any number of musical journeys available to us.

What I provide at the studio is comprehensive private tuition, one on one for entry level to advanced students with discovery, focus and adventure high on the list. The sylabus covers all aspects of melody, harmony, technique and improvisation for guitar including Rhythmic Notation, Pitch Notation, Melodic Motion, Sight Reading, Intervals, Inversions, Key Signatures, Major Scales and the Caged System, Relative Minor Scales and Modes, Harmonic and Melodic Minor.

Major and Minor Pentatonics, Diminished and Whole Tone Scales, Triads and chord construction, 7th's, 9th's, 11th's &13th's. Study and analysis of popular songs. Open String Voicings. Diatonic Voice Leading.Appeggios. Sequentials. Study and analysis of Jazz Std/s Progressive Fingerpicking. In depth Style study's of guitar's great players and the Blues in detail including lick's, chords, grooves and turnarounds.

Fee Structure is $80 per hour or $40 per half hour lesson

The studio is located in North Sydney, please feel free to call for a chat or to book a time spot on [02] 9955 9911. My teaching hours are Monday to Thursday 10.00 AM to 8.00 PM. I have some spare instruments available that students are welcome to use. It is a fully fitted out facility with a fairly wide range of material/ transcriptions available.

Recording and equipment advice
Over the years I have spent a fair amount of time in studios and home recording setups so I am able to offer practical equipment advice regarding the meritts of different guitars and amps having owned or played a good deal of them. I have many friends in the guitar retail and audio industry so whatever range of instrument or recording device is required either myself or someone I know will have axcess to what you are looking for. There is also a fairly extensive reference library on Vintage guitars and amps in the studio as well as a good range of popular CD's.
